Having a fur friend is definitely life-changing, to say the least. You probably often hear how your dog sees you as their EVERYTHING. And that walks or playtime with you are what they look forward to the MOST out of their day (like how cute is that 🥺). On the other hand, dogs totally change their owners’ lives more than they know. Obviously in the most positive way possible, however, there are the challenges that come with it…
There are sooo many responsibilities with having any sort of pet. However, I’m not gonna get into that. What I am going to discuss is the one thing related to this blog: decor. And how having a dog can often ruin your apartment’s aesthetic. If you’ve stumbled upon this post, you’re probably asking these questions:
How does one keep their apartment interior design aesthetic and cohesive when having a dog?? On top of that, how does one keep it clean??
Well, let’s tackle one thing at a time and focus on the design of your apartment. I’ve compiled a list of 5 decorating tips, tricks, and hacks to KEEP your aesthetic apartment AESTHETIC. These are literally so easy to follow, super budget-friendly, and extremely functional. These ideas will let all of your dog’s things seamlessly blend into your decor, you won’t even know it’s there!!
Let’s get into it…
Dog Friendly Decorating Ideas #1: Your Dog’s Bed
Let’s talk about your dog’s bed. This might be the most essential piece of furniture for your dog. I know it most definitely is my dog’s “can’t live without” item because he is laying on it allll the time. However, finding an aesthetic bed that will blend easily with your decor style might be harder than you think.
When choosing a dog bed, keep in mind both comfort and style. Because although a certain bed may be “aesthetic” for your space, it might be SUPER uncomfortable for your dog and we don’t want that!
Comfort
When figuring out which bed might be the most comfortable for your dog, always do your research! Every dog will be different, but it’s always good to know your dog and know the product you’re thinking about purchasing. For example, my dog is roughly middle-aged and I was worried about possible joint problems arising. I opted for a Tempurpedic/memory foam-style bed for maximum comfort and he absolutely LOVES IT.
Style
When it comes to looks, opt-in for a neutral-colored bed to seamlessly blend into your decor style and apartment. It’ll be even easier to blend in if you go for a plain print and no patterns. However, if color or patterns are your things, definitely go for it!
The main idea is to visualize the different colors and shades that are already in your apartment and go from there. More specifically, take a look at the exact room your dog’s bed will go in. Take note of the colors, textures, and fixtures already present. Use that as a base or starting point to choose something that will fit in.
To make your space cohesive, there need to be items that visually align and make sense in terms of color scheme and design. I’d avoid getting a bright pink dog bed if your entire room is filled with beiges, whites, and creams LOL.
You all know I love my neutrals though and I personally think that is the easiest and most simple way to go!! I’ve linked some of my favorite options here along with the bed my dog currently has (which did I mention he literally loves 😂).

Dog Friendly Decorating Ideas #2: Your Dog’s Water Bowl
Another one of your dog’s things that might not look the most aesthetically pleasing: their water and food bowls. Instead of opting for the plain metal bowls that you just place on the floor, try to get a water and food bowl riser. Not only is it more visually pleasing and can fit in (or even add) to your apartment’s decor, but it’s more functional for your dog as well.
If you’re going for the neutral, cozy, organic modern-styled apartment vibe, I’d suggest the wooden risers with metal legs. The wood mixed with the metal is PERFECT for this style and will likely match a lot of other items you may already have in your apartment.
The best place to look for these is Homegoods!! They have so many good options, various styles, and all at super affordable price points. However, if you’re not finding anything good at your local store, you can also check out Amazon. Another place with reasonable prices and who doesn’t love 2-day shipping?! I’ve linked some that I would DEFINITELY buy if I didn’t have one already:

Dog Friendly Decorating Ideas #3: Your Dog’s Toys
Next, we have your dog’s toys. This one is hard because dog toys can come in all sorts of colors, sizes, and shapes. I know I’m not always going for neutral toys so I can match my decor style. I just see something that I think my dog will like and I go for it!
However, I do want to share with you the cutest neutral dog toys at Marshalls/TJ Maxx that are SO cheap (you can also find these in-store at HomeGoods). Your dog needs all of these NOW! Would also be the perfect gift for a new dog owner who loves neutral decor 🖤

- 18in Oversized Octopus Toy – Shop Now at Marshalls
- 17in Oversized Mallard Duck Toy – Shop Now at TJ Maxx
However, 10 toys laying out all over your apartment floor is not the most ideal thing. Especially if you’re trying to make your apartment look aesthetically pleasing lol. If buying neutral toys is just not for you, my #1 tip would be…
BASKETS!
I truly think you can never have enough baskets. They are the best way at hiding all the things you don’t want to be seen. The only way you’re going to keep your apartment organized, clean, and visually appealing is by putting away your dog’s toys whenever they’re done playing. It’s such a simple thing, but will totally make your space feel put together!!
Go with baskets that blend in with your decor style. Here are some woven basket options that are so functional, versatile for any decor style, would mask anything you don’t want to be seen (not just dog toys), and most importantly AESTHETIC 😉.

Dog Friendly Decorating Ideas #4: Your Dog’s Food/Treats
This next tip is for all your dog’s food and treats! You have a couple of options here.
Option #1: You can try and put all your dog’s food and treats away. This could be in either a kitchen pantry or cabinet. Essentially, completely out of sight! This would be the easiest solution if you have a lot of available storage space and you don’t mind taking it out every time to feed your dog.
Option #2: You can display your dog’s food in an “aesthetic” way on your kitchen countertops. This doesn’t mean all your dog’s food though. I’m hoping you at least have some storage space for your excess kibble lol. However, you can easily display your dog’s treats in super cute organization containers. Not only would displaying these on your kitchen counter allow you to have a clean look and cohesiveness to your decor style, but it’s also extremely functional.
If you plan on going with option #2, here are a few storage containers you should totally check out!!

Dog Friendly Decorating Ideas #5: Your Dog’s Collar, Harness, & Leash
Lastly, this one isn’t super related to your apartment decor, but more for your fur friend. You definitely can’t have an aesthetic apartment and NOT have an aesthetic collar/harness and leash for your dog! Your dog totally needs to match your energy and vibe. And the best way to do that is with a collar that matches your interior design DUH 😂.
If you’re a dog mom on any sort of social media, you probably already know this brand. Wild One. They just have the most beautiful dog accessories EVER. I absolutely love their colors (especially their neutral ones). Like how cute would it be to have your dog match your apartment decor style? It’s a new must for dog moms these days. And they also have such cute matching accessories for the owners!!
I would 1,000% check out this brand if you’re in the market for a new collar, harness, or leash for your dog. Especially if you’re going for the aesthetic, cool dog mom look. Here are my tops picks below:
If you’ve made it all the way to the end…
