A while back I did a blog post on the 5 Best Sectional Couches for Your Small Apartment, but I know that not everyone wants a sectional couch or can even fit a sectional couch in their space. That’s why I decided to do this blog post for sofa options that weren’t sectionals, specifically slipcovered sofas.
There are so many pros to this type of sofa and they’re becoming more and more popular. You’ve probably seen some variation of a slipcovered sofa in an interior designer’s picture either on Instagram or Pinterest recently. And for good reason.
Here are the pros to a slipcovered sofa:
- Functionality – The beauty of a slipcovered sofa is that if you get it dirty, you can easily remove the slipcover, get it cleaned, and your sofa is back to normal. With a regular, non-slipcovered sofa, you’d have to figure out a way to remove the stain from the sofa itself. The slipcover element itself is definitely a benefit when it comes to cleaning and keeping it in pristine condition.
- Customizable – With a lot of slipcovered sofas these days, you can easily go to the seller’s website and choose the fabric type and color. This makes these types of sofas suuuper customizable and unique to each person. Say you want to change up the fabric type or color a few years down the line, the slipcovered sofa allows for that flexibility.
- Visually Pleasing – This one is definitely more of an opinion, but slipcovered sofas, specifically loveseats or bench-style, have a classic look to them. Slipcovered sofas have been around foreverrr and the style or shape of the sofa has evolved over time, but I think there is a sense of timelessness about them. It brings a cozy, intimate feel as if you’re at your grandma’s house but in a good way lol. I totally don’t think this type of sofa is just a trend that will come and go, but one that will be used till the end of time!!
But just because there are a lot of pros, doesn’t mean there aren’t any cons that might sway your decision or make you do a bit of rethinking. I want to be fully transparent so I can help you make the best decision when you’re furniture shopping, so here are some other points you might want to consider as well.
Here are the cons to a slipcovered sofa:
- Wrinkles – This con seems to be the most mentioned thing people say when it comes to a reason as to why they don’t want to buy a slipcovered sofa. With a slipcovered sofa, it’s almost inevitable that you’ll have at least SOME wrinkles. Unless you’re steaming it every day, you can’t help it. Personally, I used to think this would be a deal-breaker (being a Type A kind of person), but it has actually grown on me. I think it adds character and comfort and makes an apartment feel like a home, as opposed to a perfect furniture showroom.
- Price – Depending on materials, size, and quality of the sofa, these slipcovered ones can be pricy (as with any type of furniture really). Most of the ones you see on social media are most likely thousands of dollars. And rightfully so because they’re gorgeous 😩. This doesn’t me you can’t find an affordable slipcovered sofa that is also visually pleasing. However, it is a bit more difficult and usually, the extra aesthetic ones are extra pricy.
Although there are pros and cons with slipcovered sofas (as with anything), you may find that the pros outweigh the cons for YOU. That’s why I wanted to create this list of my BEST slipcovered sofas.
These five are specifically more on the budget-friendly side (because that’s what this blog is all about). And they’re also 2 to 3 seaters to fit within your small apartment! However, I know that they might not be what you’re looking for visually. So I’ve included a little BONUS section at the end for some of my more high-end, aesthetic-looking favorites!!
Let’s get into this…
Slipcovered Sofas #1: EKTORP from IKEA
COLOR: Beige, Off-White – Based on product description and photo.
TEXTURE: Polyester & Cotton Blend – This is what was noted in the product description. From the photos, it gives an almost linen look and the reviews note that the fabric is thick and durable.
PRICE: $579
ADDITIONAL PERKS: The cover itself is machine-washable. You can also purchase the cover separately if need be. Based on the reviews, customers have noted this sofa is super comfortable, soft yet sturdy, and easy to assemble. It was also noted to be a really great option considering the price!
**NOTE: IKEA has another slipcovered sofa called the UPPLAND. Super similar to the EKTORP (in shape and style) but, a bit more expensive and comes in a variety of colors (including white). Check it out if you’re looking for a pure white sofa option!!
Slipcovered Sofas #2: Feather Filled Brynn Sofa from World Market
COLOR: Ivory – Based on product description and photo. Also comes in a navy blue color as well!
TEXTURE: Polyester-Nylon Performance Upholstery – This is what was noted in the product description. From the photos, it looks like a super soft, thin, airy material (definitely less thick and sturdy in comparison to the IKEA one above). Based on the reviews, most noted that the material was soft and durable.
PRICE: $1,199.99
ADDITIONAL PERKS: This sofa has removable and reversible cushions, which is a GAME CHANGER. If you accidentally spill something on this beautiful white sofa, and the stain won’t fully come out (after attempting to clean it), you can easily flip the cushions, and BOOM, brand new. On the other hand, one con about this sofa is that the slipcover over the frame itself (not the cushions) is not removable.
Slipcovered Sofas #3: Lucia 93” Recessed Arm Slipcovered Sofa with Reversible Cushions from Wayfair
COLOR: Spinnsol Optic White – Based on the product description and photo. There are 53 different colors total, so check out the link for more info!
TEXTURE: 100% Cotton – However, along with the various colors, there are also various materials (polyester, acrylic, etc.). The product description and reviews recommended that you get fabric swatches so you can see the colors and feel the material options in person!!
PRICE: $1,340
ADDITIONAL PERKS: The back and seat cushions are all removable (making cleaning insanely easy) and the sofa comes with two throw pillows. In the reviews, a buyer noted that this sofa was a dupe for the Arhaus Baldwin Slipcovered Sofa. Other reviews stated that this sofa was comfortable, super high-quality, easy to maintain and shipped to them in a timely manner. Honestly, so many good reviews, I would definitely give this one a try if this is the look you’re going for!!
Slipcovered Sofas #4: Ava Slipcovered Sofa from Grandin Road
COLOR: Pearl – Based on the product description and photo. There are 6 different colors total, so check out the link for more info!
TEXTURE: Livesmart® Performance Fabric – According to the product description, this material is “moisture-repellent” (good for spills and stains) and “designed for heavy-duty wear”. Based on the customer reviews, the material is noted to be soft, yet sturdy and truly stain-repellent. On the website, it looks like you can order swatches as well so highly recommend doing that in case you’re an overthinker like me lol.
PRICE: $1,699 – $1,899
ADDITIONAL PERKS: This sofa comes with 4 throw pillows. You can also order just the slipcover itself in case you need to replace the cover due to a spill or you want to try a new color. This one is definitely the option that gives you the most bang for your buck. The reviews noted that this is the BEST slipcovered sofa on the market when it comes to quality, price, and all things in between!!
Slipcovered Sofas #5: Stone & Beam Bryant Modern Sofa Couch with Slipcover from Amazon
COLOR: Optic White – Based on the product description and photo. Also comes in a gray color as well!
TEXTURE: Polyester – This is what was noted in the product description. From the photos, it looks like a smooth linen material. Based on the reviews, customers also noted that the material has a linen-like weave. Some customers said it was a bit on the rough side, while others thought it was very smooth, comfortable, and soft.
ADDITIONAL PERKS: The slipcover is machine washable, making it super convenient for cleaning! Some reviews noted that they had no problem machine washing it, while others had some issues. Additionally, this sofa has a super modern shape (especially in comparison to the other options above) and I absolutely LOVE that. Sofas that look like these, from places like Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel, often go for thousands of dollars, so this one is a stealll.
BONUS:
For my bougie besties!! I would get all of these if I wasn’t on a strict budget lol. Also, a lot of these sofas have customizations so the price will vary depending on your choice of color, fabric, size, etc.

- Amelia Sofa – SIXPENNY
- PB Comfort Roll Arm Slipcovered Sofa – Pottery Barn
- York Slope Arm Slipcovered Sofa – Pottery Barn
- Marina Slope Arm Slipcovered Sofa – Pottery Barn

If you’ve made it all the way to the end…
I hope you found this list helpful! Couches and sofas can often be SO hard to shop for, especially if you’re unable to see them in person first. I would encourage you to see if they’re displayed in any of your local stores and check them out if you can!! It’s always great to sit on a couch and get a feel for it prior to buying. If you’re unable to do so or the seller just doesn’t have in-person stores (i.e. Wayfair), I would just say do your research, read the reviews, and hope for the best 😂. But luckily you can always return it if it doesn’t float your boat!
