Affordable Neutral Rugs
Neutral Rugs #1: 7′ 10 x 10′ Hand Knotted Jill Zarin English Manor Wool Rug from Rugs.com
The definition of the PERFECT neutral rug. It’s hand-knotted and provides just the right amount of texture without clashing! And an 8×10 for under $500, INSANE.
This is the rug I have in my bedroom (as pictured in the very first photo of this blog post) and I absolutely love it! In my opinion, it’s a bit more beige in person and not as white/ivory. But I prefer that. Also, if you look closely at the rug in person, there are little black specs throughout.
This is a wool rug, which adds a ton of texture and a more rustic feel. As you would expect with a wool rug, it does have some shedding. I would recommend vacuuming it right after you lay it out to get some of the initial shedding off.
Again, there’s literally nothing better than a hand-knotted rug for this price. And the fact that it’s so versatile makes it a win-win situation.
Neutral Rugs #2: Beige Shaggy Crosshatch 7′ 6″ x 9′ 6″ Area Rug from Rugs USA
If you love the look of layered rugs, but can’t afford to buy 2 at once to get that look, this rug is for you!!
This rug definitely gives off the illusion that there are two rugs layered on top of each other when in reality, it’s just one. Love the crosshatch detail as well! It will definitely add so much texture and visual interest to any room for sure.
It also looks sooo soft so totally in the “neutral rugs for bedroom” category for me.
Neutral Rugs #3: Cream Braided Wool 7′ 6″ x 9′ 6″ Area Rug from Rugs USA
The ultimate neutral rug that will go in any room with any decor style. A true staple and the epitome of versatility.
Super similar to the first rug within this list, this is another neutral wool rug. The main difference between this one and the wool rug from Rugs.com is the fringe and this one is braided.
I also think this one is plainer and less textured. I’ve seen this rug pictured on other creators’ feeds and it seems to be a solid beige color (no specks of other colors/shades of beige).
Definitely choose this one if you’re looking for something that will blend in more. Maybe if you have a lot of furniture/decor items already in your room or a bunch of patterns, this would be an ideal option.
Neutral Rugs #4: Off White Chunky Jute Tasseled 7′ 6″ x 9′ 6″ Area Rug from Rugs USA
The rug you’ve probably seen at least once on your Instagram feed, and for good reason.
The ultimate plain jute rug that can be styled in so many different ways!! I truly think everyone should have at least 1 jute rug in their rug collection.
This would be the perfect neutral rug for layering if you want to buy two rugs. This one is already insanely affordable, so layering 2 rugs is a feasible option. This one would for sure be the base/underneath rug as you can buy a super large size for a decent price.
I’m also not the biggest fan of the way jute rugs feel, so I’d probably layer a softer, more plush rug on top. Some ideas for a top rug would be a cowhide rug, a small vintage rug, or a shag rug!
Neutral Rugs #5: Polly Checkered Handmade Tufted Area Rug in Ivory/Natural from Wayfair
Classic and timeless. Just the right amount of pattern, yet still neutral and super clean.
This rug screams class and elegance in the most subtle way. The small checkered pattern with the beige border is EVERYTHING.
This would definitely be in the “neutral rugs for nursery” category. It just provides such a calming feeling that I could see it working perfectly in a nursery. This rug would also look so pretty in a bedroom as well.
It also looks super thick and soft, probably because it is hand-tufted. Such a great price for this type of rug!!
Neutral Rugs #6: Checkered Handmade Tufted Area Rug in Straw/Ivory from Wayfair
Love the detail of this rug, looks so pretty up close and even better from afar!! Even though the pattern seems like there’s a lot going on, it’s not overwhelming and can really pull a room together.
This rug is also hand-tufted, just like the option above. However, with this pattern and style, I would see this rug being in the “neutral rugs for living room” category. This rug, with its intricacies and design, would totally be the piece that connects all the furniture and decor together in the room.
Neutral Rugs #7: Gray Freckled Stripes Tassel 7′ 6″ x 9′ 6″ Area Rug from Rugs USA
A darker, thicker rug to add some variety to this list! I had mixed emotions about these large tassels, but I’m kinda feeling them now…
Having a dark-colored rug can be so bold and definitely standouts for sure. Some might think that it will make the room feel gloomier, but I think it adds depth and contrast.
Even though this rug isn’t handmade or hand-knotted, it looks super thick and can be styled in a way that looks super high-end. And for that price, it’s a no-brainer!!
Neutral Rugs #8: Brown Amaya Checkerboard 8′ x 10′ Area Rug from Rugs USA
Another darker rug, but this one is a brown moment. I’ve been loving the color brown for anything and everything. It’s so sophisticated and once again can add so much depth to your space.
Even though brown is a dark color, it’s not as harsh as a black rug. Brown is still a very warm color, yet will add just the right amount of contrast to any room.
The small checkered detail is also just the right amount of pattern without being too distracting, especially if your room doesn’t have much of that yet!
Neutral Rugs #9: 8′ x 10′ Monte Carlo Rug from Rugs.com
By far THE MOST affordable rug on this list! Such a good dupe for the one I have in my living room too!
If you know me, I love all things vintage rugs. But they are so expensive it’s CRAZY. This one has that distressed, faded look, without the insane price tag.
There are so many dupes for vintage-looking rugs, but this one is by far the most affordable and has a ton of amazing reviews.
Neutral Rugs #10: Frannie Rug from Lulu & Georgia
Who knew Lulu & Georgia had affordable rugs?! I definitely didn’t until I was perusing their website and stumbled across this beauty.
Even though this rug isn’t handmade, it looks like suuuch amazing quality for the price. I absolutely love the vintage pattern and the clarity/detail of the design. The neutral, gray color with a hint of beige/pink is so pretty!
And again, the fact that this is from Lulu & Georgia blows my mind because when I think of them, I think of $$$.
Neutral Rugs #11: Walker Burnt Orange/Cream Shag Area Rug from All Modern
Last but not least, I’m usually not the biggest fan of shag rugs, but this one was too cute not to include. And you’ve probably seen it on your TikTok “for you page” for sure!!
I love the checkered pattern and the fact that it’s brown is even better. This looks like the comfiest rug of all time and I would love to just lay on it.
Some might think the checkered pattern is too trendy, but I think it’s HERE TO STAY. It’s giving a cool, post-modern vibe and I’m here for it. However, it can be styled in so many different ways and isn’t confined to one interior design style.
