This post is all interior design trends for 2022.
As we get closer and closer to 2022, I think it would be fitting to discuss some interior design trends that I believe are going to POP OFF this upcoming year.
Disclaimer:
These are solely my opinions and what I think will be popular in 2022 based on research and experience (I am no expert whatsoever). Trends are definitely not always the best to follow and my motto is, if you love it, go with it! You can use the “trends” as a guide to growing your own interior design style, but if you don’t agree, that is totally normal. Not everyone loves the same things, which is what makes the creativity aspect of interior design so fun!!
Definition of “Trendy”:
Before we start, I also feel as though it’s important to discuss my definition of “trendy”. When I’m discussing “trendy” products or interior design “trends” for 2022, I’m discussing things that I believe will be more popular this upcoming year. Not things that will be popular in 2022 and then fade away and become “out of style”. A lot of these “trends” discussed below have been around for a LONG time, but I think they are the ones that are going to STAY around and be especially relevant during this upcoming year.
If you find a way to incorporate some of these into your apartment or home, you won’t regret it!!
Let’s get into it…
Interior Design Trend #1: the color RUST & GREEN
I think earthy colors will totally be a trend moving into 2022, especially shades of rust and green. Both of these colors can be both vibrant or super subtle depending on the shade and the way you incorporate it into your interior design/home décor style.
These colors would be super pretty in accent pieces and could shine through with your home décor. On the other hand, they could also be beautifully used as colors for large furniture pieces. Imagine a rust-colored couch making a statement in your living room. Would be insane (most definitely in a good way).
Interior Design Trend #2: all things ARCHES
When I think of arches, I mostly think of arch doorways and arches within architecture. Imagine Kendall Jenner’s home, if you’ve watched her home tour with Architectural Digest. Arched doorways/hallways are so pretty and they’ve been around for a long time. Moving forward, they will definitely stay in style and be incorporated in more and more homes.
But you could also incorporate arches in other ways. Because I definitely can’t drop everything and renovate my apartment to have an arched hallway lol. Never gonna happen. The arched shape can be incorporated in décor pieces throughout your apartment or home. For example, arched mirrors, arch-shaped lamps, arch objects that can be placed around your space (linked a few cool ones below). Possibilities are endless!!
Kira Arch Full-Length Mirror By Glass Warehouse (modern black framed full-length mirror ideal for outfit checks)
Price: $429.99
Addison Rattan Table Lamp Brown – Threshold™ (a black arched shape with a rattan accent shade, perfect desk lamp or for nightstands)
Price: $50.00
Wood Arch Object, Natural, Set of 3 (perfect decor for kitchen countertops, coffee tables, or media consoles)
Price: $66.00
Interior Design Trend #3: VINTAGE ITEMS mixed in with MODERN
As we enter into 2022, I think people are going to start spending more of their money on investment pieces rather than buying everything from cheaper stores. This is especially when it comes to furniture.
I think people (including myself) have realized through this past year that you can still furnish and decorate your apartment on a budget while spending more of your coin on certain pieces you really like. When it comes to certain items, especially vintage, they can be EXPENSIVE. But that doesn’t mean you can’t splurge once in a while and shift your budget to accommodate for a piece you really want. It’s even trendy to blend the vintage with modern to create a more balanced space.
I would personally splurge on the vintage (because you really can’t find budget-friendly options for those) and find cheaper, modern pieces from stores like Target, Wayfair, Living Spaces, or HomeGoods. A nice blend of this would totally be right on trend for 2022. But don’t forget, do and buy whatever makes you happy 😊!!
Interior Design Trend #4: SLIPCOVER sofas
Not to reference this again, but Kendall Jenner’s formal living room was the perfect example of slipcover sofas that I think will be trendy for 2022. There is just something about the lax feeling they give to a home and the wrinkles (LOL) that make you feel comfortable. They look so relaxed and homey, you can’t go wrong with them.
Slipcover sofas come in so many different colors as well. I’ve mostly seen them in an off-white color, but Kendall’s brown ones are super cool and moody – I LOVE. Additionally, most slipcover sofas are reasonably sized, so they could fit great within a small apartment.
However, they are often quite expensive so this would be an investment piece. Luckily, even though I think this will be a trend for 2022, I don’t see these going out of style any time in the future (linked 2 at very different price point options below).
Interior Design Trend #5: CURVED, uniquely-shaped couches
On the topic of sofas and couches, I think curved features will definitely be in style for 2022. For example, with the slipcover sofa, the ones with curved armrests will be more trendy and popular than the ones with linear armrests.
Another curved couch I’ve seen A LOT is the Mario Bellini Camaleonda Sofa. Absolutely love the design of this and how unique it is compared to a typical sofa or couch you’d normally see. But these are CRAZYYY expensive, I’m talking $3K – $5K depending on the combination of modules, the fabric you want to use, etc. This one is totally a splurge item/investment piece as there really is no dupe out there for it (it’s that iconic).
However, there are so many other curved and uniquely-shaped couches out there that fit a wide variety of budgets. I’ve pinned a few of my favs on my Pinterest board ‘Couches & Sofas’ for inspiration!!
Interior Design Trend #6: eclectic GALLERY WALLS
Gallery walls have always been a great way to fill blank spaces on your wall. And gallery walls can be comprised of so many different things like photos, artwork, etc. The most common gallery wall I’ve seen, and likely the easiest to recreate, would be photo gallery walls. They’re a nice way to add that personal touch to your apartment or home and make it your own!!
But what I think will be trendy for 2022 are more eclectic gallery walls filled with a combination of photos, artworks, and different frames and sizes. I think these are going to be a super unique way to bring your own personality and interests into your apartment or home. Plus it is totally something you would be able to build over time.
Interior Design Trend #7: PATTERNS & TEXTILES
The 7th trend that I think will be super popular is patterns and textiles. This kind of speaks for itself. Patterns and textiles can be used and incorporated throughout your apartment or home in so many different ways. You can have different textures through throw pillows and various textiles through throw blankets/quilts.
As we enter into 2022, we are stepping away from the plain solid colors to more vibrant patterns and textiles and I’m HERE FOR IT.
Interior Design Trend #8: MARBLE PLINTH coffee tables
This last interior design trend on my list of trends for 2022 is marble plinth coffee tables. You’ve probably seen these start to emerge this past year, but they are definitely here to stay.
They are so gorgeous and provide a nice modern feel. They would look especially gorgeous paired with a vintage or more traditional couch in a living room. The veining of the marble adds pattern and intricacy and can totally elevate your space.
They often come in different sizes, however lean towards a more expensive price point. If a large marble plinth coffee table is too expensive for your budget (aka me), you could try and incorporate it into a side or end table instead (which are often cheaper due to the smaller size).
There is really no exact dupe for this Burke Decor one, but the marbling on this CB2 coffee table is very similar. The shape is different, but the marbling is what makes this trend in my opinion (actually might even like the shape of the CB2 one better)!!
If you’ve made it all the way to the end…
